Risen Soldier Character Guide

Type: Infantry

Threat: Moderate

What the Risen Soldier Is

The rank-and-file of the risen Grande Armée. Risen Soldiers are returned melee warriors who still remember their drill: measured swings, a guard carried high and the occasional combination that ends in a heavier blow. They appear from the opening hours onward, usually in pairs or supporting a stronger unit, and they are the benchmark against which every other infantry enemy reads as fast or slow.

How to Fight Them

Their attack rhythm is the textbook parry window — commit to the read, fill the posture bar, take the critical. Against pairs, use the dash to rotate so both soldiers stay in front of you; backpedaling invites the second one to swing into your blind side. Fire-based transmutations such as the flamethrower melt grouped infantry fast, which is the intended answer to the bigger packs.

A soldier mid-combo cannot be staggered out of it — parry the last hit of the chain instead of trading. The punish window after the combo is longer than the window between hits.

Where You Meet Them

Everywhere the Eternal Guard has walked. Soldiers garrison checkpoints, patrol between lanterns and reinforce almost every elite fight in the game, so the parry timing you drill on them is never wasted. They also drop steady Catalysts, which makes disciplined soldier packs a low-risk way to bank currency before a boss door.
