Risen Duellist Character Guide

Type: Infantry

Threat: High

What the Risen Duellist Is

Dragoon-uniformed fencers — faster and tougher than the common soldier, with a duelist's habit of punishing whiffed attacks. Duellists are the game's mid-tier skill check: their combos chain further than a Soldier's, their guard does not stay open long, and trading blows with them instead of reading them is the fastest way to an empty Ferro Flask.

How to Fight Them

The Duellist is a parry exam in miniature. Watch for the two-hit feint into the real swing — the third attack is the one worth parrying, because its recovery is longest. When your posture damage lands them into the stagger, do not delay the critical: their recovery from stagger is short. Symphony of Steel practice (ten parries without taking damage) against a single Duellist is demanding but honest — their rhythm is readable once you stop attacking on cooldown.

If a Duellist is protecting a Musketeer, kill the fencer second. The Musketeer's shots interrupt your parry reads, and a half-read parry against a Duellist costs a flask.

Where You Meet Them

Duellists start appearing once the campaign leaves the opening chapters, usually guarding something — a lantern path, an Amber, a door. Meeting one at full health with full flasks is a fair fight; meeting one while lost at half resources is the lesson to avoid.
