Howler Character Guide

Type: Beast

Threat: Moderate

What Howlers Are

Hound-and-man hybrids that hunt in fast packs. Howlers do not fight fair: they circle, attack from blind sides and time their lunges for the moment your combo commits. Individually they are fragile — one clean stagger-critical removes one — but a pack that keeps its spacing can bleed your Ferro Flask long before any single Howler lands a memorable hit.

How to Fight Them

Deny the circle. Back against a wall, a tree line or any choke point so the pack must come to you from one side, then use wide attacks or the flamethrower to hit two at once. Ignite is unusually efficient against packs — a burning Howler usually loses the nerve to lunge while its health ticks down. Keep moving after every hit; a stationary target invites the second lunge.

A Howler mid-lunge is committed. Sidestep the lunge rather than parrying it — the miss recovery is long enough for two free hits, which is faster posture math than a parry against a small posture bar.

Where You Meet Them

Packs patrol the wilder stretches between settlements and checkpoints. They are also the most common escort in ambush layouts — if the ground ahead looks like an arena, assume Howlers and check your flanks before the lantern.
