What the Eternal Guardsman Is

The tall, deadly fencers of Napoleon's Eternal Guard — the elite core of the game's army and the closest thing regular enemies get to boss fights. A Guardsman out-ranges most melee weapons, chains textbook sword combos and punishes every unread swing you throw. The We Wear the Same Colors achievement — defeat all Eternal Guardists, held by 0.1% of players as of October 15, 2026 — tells you both how many of them are hidden and how long the hunting list is.

How to Fight Them

An elite Guardsman duel: find the anchor beat, live off it, punish the recovery.

Fight them like a Duellist with a boss's posture bar. Every combo has one parry-able anchor hit — find it, live off it, and refuse to attack between their strings. Their lunge is the dangerous exception: dash it, never parry it. When the stagger lands, the critical finisher is the whole reward for a patient fight. At range, respect their footwork — they close distance faster than you expect, and backing up burns the arena you will want later.

Keep a mental map of every Guardsman you have killed. The achievement hunt for We Wear the Same Colors is a campaign in itself — the completion checklist on this site tracks the route.

Where You Meet Them

Guarding what matters: story doors, Amber caches, the approaches to named bosses. Meeting one is usually optional, which is exactly why the game rewards you for it — Guardsman kills mark mastery of the parry system better than any other regular fight.
